Election Observation and Democratic Development'The promotion of genuine democracy and respect for human rights is therefore not only a moral imperative: it is also the determining factor in building sustainable human development and lasting peace'. - European Commission
The protection of the fundamental right as well as opportunity to participate in the development of a common future is inherent in how we approach our projects. Our commitment to democracy is manifested by our dedication to ensure that such rights are observed by integrating broad public, private and civic participation as well as ensure local ownership of all developmental strategies and processes.
We are currently in the process of consolidating our commitment to election observation by investigating training opportunities in order to build adequate institutional capacity. We also seek to integrate our work with other organizations in effective partnerships prior to our first field mission.
SDGI has as of 2009 officially endorsed the 'Declaration of Principles for International Election Obsrvation' as yet another step in ensuring the integrity of our involvement. For more information about endorsing organizations and further resources please visit the Carter Center webpage.
