Public Security- Common Effort Against ViolenceViolence is a social construction. Many societies are today submerged in vicious circles which consequently generate a general increase in violence. Although expressed in various degrees most of us can identify common denominators such as marginalisation, exclusion, stigmatization, criminalization, and poverty.
Where statistics show a general increase in crime rates and the common perception of danger, societies also exhibit tendencies to amplify the over-all frustration over the inadequacy to deal with such trends.
We understand that working towards safer societies also implies social construction, and finding developmental strategies which place human and personal development at the centre of the solution is a responsibility which can no longer be neglected.
The consequences of the increasing violence in many countries around the world illustrate the raw reality of marginalization. With deteriorating bonds between societies, staggering costs for investments and consequently economic development, we also find increasing difficulty in strengthening the processes for democratic governance.
It is of outmost importance to seek initiatives and solutions which account for preventive measures against violence and crime as well as the restructuring of institutions at all levels (states, institutions of higher learning, co-operation agencies etc). In order to find sustainable solutions to such polemics we strongly believe that every one of us port responsibility and a role in the process of constructing safer societies.
